AbstractLyme disease is an infectious syndrome transmitted by tick bites. Of the multiple manifestations, cardiac and joint involvement are of primary interest for internists and rheumatologists. Up to 10% of patients develop cardiac symptoms, most frequently a disturbance of atrioventricular conduction. The characteristic presentation of the disease, however, are of symptoms of arthritis in one or several large joints. This review summarizes Lyme disease with emphasis on presenting symptoms important to internists and rheumatologists.
