AbstractPyomyositis is a bacterial infection of the skeletal muscle usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus. This case report presents a 20-year-old man with pyomyositis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Pyomyositis is a rare but potentially critical disease, and early diagnosis, drainage and use of appropriate antibiotic therapy are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. However, early diagnosis of pyomyositis can be challenging as initial symptoms may be vague, but the condition should be suspected in patients with acute onset of severe, localised muscle pain and fever.
