AbstractThe development of perinatology gives premature and other newborn infants at risk a better chance of survival. The transport of these infants from the delivery room to the neonatal intensive care centre is a complicated procedure and its inherent dangers for the newborn infant increase with distance. Success depends on special transport facilities and the mobile van equipment is described. The results of experience in the transport of 218 newborn infants at risk are discussed. The necessity of initial emergency preparative measures for the transportation of the ill infant is illustrated by 2 cases.
