AbstractSerial excisions of large defined burn scars often improve the aesthetic appearance as well as reduce subjective complaints such as itching and sensory disturbance. The natural elasticity of undamaged skin allows stepwise excision of areas up to the size of a hand. Ideally, a linear scar the length of the original scar area results. Shrinkage, contour and pigment deficiencies, often seen after skin grafting, are not a problem.
