AbstractThe authors have monitored Tc PCO2, Tc PO2 and mean airway pressure in 25 ventilated newborns, during 68 days. They show that the best blood gases values are not even obtained with the most aggressive artificial ventilation (A.V.). Tc PCO2 and Tc PO2 transcutaneous monitoring and mean airway pressure measurement allow an "à la carte" adaptation of the A.V. to bring in each case the most efficient and the least aggressive A.V. This method may decrease the iatrogenic complications of the A.V.
