AbstractThere is an accumulation of blast injuries on New Year's Eve due to fireworks.During an attempt to manufacture a firework the substances being mixed in a mortar exploded. The left hand of the patient was severely injured.During the operative treatment with radical débridement and generous amputation without osteosynthesis, a basic hand function according to Entin could initially be preserved; however, at a later stage the fourth finger could not be preserved, so that a prosthesis became necessary. This case report shows the importance of expertise in hand surgery in the treatment of such severe injuries. A toe-to-hand transplantation represents an additional treatment option.© 2021. The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.
