    AbstractDepression is a common serious disorder that has a high comorbidity with chronic facial pain. This article provides an overview of the clinical presentation, pathophysiology and diagnosis of depression. In particular, it addresses some of the problems associated with identifying depressive symptoms in dental patients who have chronic facial pain.
