    AbstractSystems tend toward inertia until an external pressure pushes them toward change; thus, a situation of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic represents an opportunity for technological innovation. The prevailing need for treatments and vaccines has impelled innovation in the world of randomized clinical trials (RCT), resorting to ideas that had been floating around for a while.
