AbstractThe metabolic syndrome is a common disorder characterized by central (especially intra-abdominal) obesity, hypertension, impaired glucose tolerance and atherogenic dyslipidemia (including the combination of hypertriglyceridemia and low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol). In this article, the authors review interventions to improve this lipid profile and potentially reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with metabolic syndrome.
