AbstractAccurate radiological assessment of the cervical spine is vital in the management of the child presenting with trauma. Compared to an adult's spine, the significant differences in the developmental anatomy (variants or synchondrosis), biomechanics and fracture patterns in the paediatric cervical spine makes assessment difficult, even for experienced radiologists. This review discusses the unique biomechanical factors, developmental anatomy, patterns of injury and imaging strategy in the paediatric population.
