AbstractAn anesthesiology resident at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center uses poetry to reflect upon the challenges of treating chronic illness in the setting of correctional healthcare. The poem was written to commemorate the patient's birthday, which he spent in the prison hospital being treated for primary biliary cholangitis.© The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States 2023.
