AbstractThe author examines some of the causes of today's socio-medical problems, suggesting family life education as one method of preventing these problems. The development of such a program in Victoria, B.C., is reported and details of physician participation, course content, and community, parent, and student responses are discussed in the light of experience in that city. Evaluation of such programs is difficult, but one of the more obvious gains was bridging the communication gap between generations, enabling students to discuss with ease hitherto taboo subjects with doctors parents or teachers. The Victoria family life education program was started seven years ago.
