AbstractThe health and life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is well known. Over 60% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live in capital cities or regional centres. The Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern has been providing accessible primary healthcare to this population for over 40 years. This article describes the work of the Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern and reflects on strategies to improve access to primary care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
