AbstractA survey of invalidity retirements under the Commonwealth Government superannuation scheme showed that the most common medical disabilities were anxiety/depressive neurosis (35%) and ischaemic heart disease (21%). At the time of retirement, an adverse effect on their health was noted from alcohol in 11% and from cigarette smoking in 16% of people.
