AbstractA short systematic review of the literature was undertaken to assess whether tranexamic acid (TXA) administration in the ED for neck of femur fractures was associated with improved outcomes for patients undergoing surgery. MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane and Google Scholar databases were searched. Four relevant papers were identified by our search strategy. The author, date, country, study population, study type, outcomes, key results and study weaknesses were tabulated. Our results suggest early TXA administration in the ED for extracapsular neck of femur fractures appears to be safe and may reduce the need for perioperative blood transfusions.© Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2025.
