AbstractThe identification and early management of severe sepsis and septic shock has undergone a significant evolution over the past decade and a half. Recently two large multicentered trials were published contradicting the original Early-Goal Directed Therapy (EGDT) trial published in 2001. In this commentary we evaluate the current trials place in the historical context of negative and positive trial's on EGDT sepsis resuscitation.
