AbstractA premature newborn developed left sciatic palsy and gluteal necrosis following umbilical artery catheterization. A six-year follow-up revealed an one-cm shortening of the left leg and foot, with an appreciable functional recovery. In connection with this rare thromboembolic complication of catheterization, we reviewed the Literature about the pathogenetic and clinical aspects of foot-drop and gluteal necrosis.
