    AbstractDuring the 1970s and early 1980s, it was estimated that mortality from anesthetics in the western world ranged from 1 to 4 per 10,000, with a significant percentage of these preventable. It is likely with the techniques available for risk management in anesthesia today, the mortality rate will decline significantly.
