AbstractThe development of low resistance oxygenators widens the therapeutic options for patients with acute respiratory failure (ARDS). Pumpless arteriovenous interventional lung assist systems (ILA) can be used in a subgroup of patients with ARDS. ILA might be indicated in earlier stages of ARDS following a multimodal treatment approach.
