    AbstractWe describe the valuable role of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography in the detection of immediate prosthetic valve dysfunction. Transesophageal echocardiography accurately diagnosed one leaflet of a St. Jude Medical mitral valve to be stuck. We recommend routine transesophageal echocardiography for mitral valve operations.
