AbstractThis article defines the three major forms of postamputation sensation: 1) phantom sensation, 2) phantom pain, and 3) residual-limb pain. Proposed etiologies for phantom pain are discussed. The literature on current diagnoses and treatments for each of the three postamputation sensations is reviewed.
