AbstractAbout the middle of 1847, Doctor Buchanan of the Australian Agricultural Company ligated a popliteal aneurysm under ether anaesthesia at Stroud, N.S.W. This paper summarises the results of a search for matters related to what must have been one of the first anaesthetics given in Australia.
