AbstractPenetrating gunshot neck injuries present a serious challenge for the primary attending surgeon. By means of a case treated in the German Field Hospital in Mazar-e-Sharif (northern Afghanistan) and a review of the literature, the principles of diagnosis and treatment of penetrating zone II neck injuries due to gunshots or shrapnel are presented.
