AbstractThis article offers a historical view of the women in the medical profession from the Homeric epics to Soranus and Galen until the early Middle Ages, in both the Eastern and Western Mediterranean areas. Recent important medical-historical papers well claify the contribution of women in health care in both the Greek and the Roman world.
