AbstractA first case of lung herniation into abdominal cavity with traumatic diaphragmatic rupture is described. A 41-year-old Japanese man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease suffered traumatic diaphragmatic rupture. He needed to get continuous mandatory ventilation for a long time. At the time of operation, left lung herniation into the abdominal cavity was observed. When those who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease suffered thoraco-abdominal injury, we should take care that pulmonary herniation might exist.
