    AbstractDabigatran is a newer oral anticoagulant, indicated for chronic atrial fibrillation anticoagulation. Experience with an emergent laparotomy in a patient on dabigatran is presented. Difficulties of this medication and strategies to deal with the coagulopathy from this direct thrombin inhibitor are described.
