AbstractLemierre's syndrome is a rare but serious condition, characterized by disseminated infection with Fusobacterium necrophorum, most often originating from the oropharynx. Thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and septic embolisms to various organs is the typical clinical picture. We describe a 16-year-old man with peritonsillar abscess who developed abscesses in lungs, liver and spleen. The patient was admitted to the ICU and treated with surgical drainage of infectious foci, antibiotics and anticoagulant therapy. After six weeks of antibiotic treatment the patient was discharged with no sequelae.
