AbstractThere is evidence to suggest that the use of mild induced hypothermia (MIH) in patients who have had cardiac arrest can improve neurological prognosis and long-term survival to discharge rates, although there is some debate in the literature on the efficacy of the procedure. This article reviews the literature on MIH with the aim of increasing emergency nurses' awareness, knowledge and understanding of the evidence for the procedure.
