    AbstractCoordinated HMO care reduces costs for patients with AIDS. Although HMOs get a bad rap, a surprising study from Boston University found that a comprehensive system of managed care can do a better job of avoiding hospitalization and reducing health care costs than traditional fee-for-service plans--without negatively impacting patient satisfaction, health status, or level of function.
