AbstractLateral instability of the patella is a common problem that often requires reconstruction of the proximal soft tissue restraints. The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) has been demonstrated to be the major soft tissue stabilizer to prevent abnormal lateral displacement of the patella. In this chapter we will discuss the anatomy, biomechanics, indications, and technique for surgical reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament.
