AbstractFew patients are neurologically devastated following cardiac surgery. However, a substantial number of patients suffer sufficient deterioration in neurologic and neuropsychologic function that the quality of their recovery is limited. Intensive research is necessary to determine what surgical and pharmacologic techniques are suitable for use in this large at-risk population.
