AimTo review care practices and methods of implementation that reduce the risk of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI).MethodsMedical and quality improvement-oriented literature was reviewed.ResultsAlthough effective catheter practices, equipment and staff training methods are available to reduce CLABSI, their implementation is often difficult.ConclusionA successful CLABSI reduction programme requires not only identification of best practices but also understanding of the specific context or unit culture into which they will be introduced.© 2012 The Author(s)/Acta Paediatrica © 2012 Foundation Acta Paediatrica.
