AbstractIntraoperative auditory monitoring in acoustic neuroma surgery is used to improve residual hearing. Three techniques are available: monitoring of brainstem auditory evoked potentials, of electrocochleography or of direct eighth nerve compound action potential. The three techniques with their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The current trend is to monitor brainstem auditory evoked potentials using digital filtering or to monitor the eighth nerve compound action potential.
