AbstractA significant decrease of DPP IV activity has been found in patients with severe sepsis in relationship to the increase of procalcitonin. These findings might be explained by the high concentration of other substrates for DPP IV present in these patients. It can be hypothesized that this enzymatic decrease is bound to some changes in immunomodulation. Further studies will be necessary to elucidate the clinical importance of these findings.
