AbstractPhysicians with training in pediatrics and anesthesiology may be useful as consultants to primary care physicians in the community. Pediatricians or family practitioners may encounter patients with chronic or intractable pain that requires multidisciplinary therapy. Local anesthesiologists may encounter children with complex medical disease or unfamiliar syndromes. Information and consultation can be obtained by contacting the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia or the Pain Management Program at Arkansas Children's Hospital. This discussion emphasizes the knowledge-base associated with the specialty and suggests scenarios in which this knowledge and training might be used.
