AbstractThe epidural administration of narcotics and local anesthetics is an effective method of postoperative pain management. An improved quality of pain control with less sedation promotes better pulmonary function, early ambulation, and probably fewer postoperative complications. Nurses caring for these patients must have a strong knowledge base and specialized skills to deliver safe and effective nursing care.
