AbstractThis case report describes the rare disorder of isolated unilateral hypoglossal nerve palsy (IUHNP) in a healthy 39-year-old woman. The patient was referred to an ENT department with swelling of the left part of the tongue. Later atrophy and palsy of the left part of the tongue were revealed. Magnetic resonance angiography of the left internal carotid artery was used to establish vasculitis. In English-language literature, only one case of IUHNP due to vasculitis of the internal carotid artery has previously been reported. The variety of diseases causing IUHNP is great, therefore thorough examination must be undertaken.
