    AbstractA case is described of extensive subcutaneous emphysema with rapid and life-threatening airway obstruction. The incident followed inadvertent removal of a chest drain in a patient with a persistent air leak from an iatrogenic pneumothorax. The pneumothorax had developed during pacemaker insertion.
