AbstractA randomised study was designed to evaluate and compare the analgesic efficacy of EMLA with dorsal nerve of penis block, in children undergoing day case circumcision. The mean (SD) duration of analgesia for EMLA and dorsal nerve block were 0.5 (0.1) h and 6.4 (1.2) h respectively (p < 0.001). It is concluded that EMLA is not as effective as dorsal nerve of penis block with regard to postoperative analgesia. No adverse effects were observed.
