AbstractBlunt abdominal trauma which resulted in isolated avulsion of the ureter in a 19-month-old boy prompted a review of the literature to determine the pathophysiology and frequency of this injury. Fifty-four patients were identified and delay in diagnosis was the most common problem (33%). The authors discuss the controversies in management of this injury and recommend steps to ensure prompt recognition of ureteral avulsion from blunt trauma.
