AbstractShortness of breath is a common presenting complaint of emergency department patients, and may result from a number of different causes. Work-up to determine the etiology in a given patient may be challenging. The authors undertook a literature review limited to causes of dyspnea other than reversible airway disease. The results of this review are discussed herein, as well as recommendations for further research.
