    AbstractSuicide is a public health problem that claims the lives of approximately 1 million people around the world each year. This article describes suicide rates in the United States and Minnesota and discusses potential effects of the economy on the rate, concerns regarding suicides in the Army, and what clinicians can do to make a difference in the lives of patients who may be at risk.
