AbstractWe encountered a 60-year-old man with severe respiratory failure after CABG. The patient received veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in which blood was drained from the right atrium through a cannula and was returned via a cannula in the left femoral vein. During ECMO, the flow rate was 2.8-3.0 l/min (about 40 ml/kg/min) and the assist was needed for 5 years. Veno-venous ECMO is a simple and effective therapy for acute respiratory failure unresponsive to conventional treatment.
