AbstractPatients who had been operated on gliomas of the brain at the University clinic of Neurosurgery in Graz between 1950-1980 were questioned about their postoperative working capacity. 921 gliomatous brain tumors (Zülch's classification) out of a total number of 2430 intracranial space-occupying lesions are discussed. 79,7% of these patients had undergone an operation in which the tumor had been totally or partially resected. The histology of the tumor was compared to the operating mortality, survival time and postoperative working capacity.
