AbstractIbuprofen (Motrin, Upjohn) was evaluated in five studies using the Dental Pain Model, which is representative of most acute postsurgical pain situations. Ibuprofen 400 mg was consistently more effective than aspirin 650 mg, acetaminophen 600 mg, and both aspirin and acetaminophen when combined with codeine 60 mg. In two studies, ibuprofen 400 mg was at least as effective as zomepirac sodium 100 mg. No serious or prolonged side effects were reported in any of these studies.
