AbstractThe palliative sedation therapy keeps the patient unconscious until death, to prevent unbearable, intractable symptoms. It is not a form of euthanasia (even from a Catholic point of view) but a morally licit way of assisting dying patients. The author examines the principle of double effect and the elements of informed consent (and advance directives) from a narrative ethical perspective.
