AbstractTrauma care became more specialized in the 1980s, and the "other side" of trauma became evident. The experiences of health care professionals revealed that patients were not the only victims of trauma. Patients' families and friends, caregivers, and the community also experienced the devastating psychosocial effects of trauma. This article describes the multidisciplinary team approach at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, that was designed to address the needs of all trauma victims.
