AbstractSince the introduction of routine assay for natriuretic peptides, there are a growing number of clinical applications for those new tests. Numerous studies have defined analytical characteristics and clinical interest of NT-proBNP assay. Originally limited to acute heart failure diagnosis in the emergency room, NT-proBNP assay has now a wide number of applications. This literature review presents the "state of art" of this marker, detailing NT-proBNP physiological recent knowledge and its recognized or investigated clinical applications.
