Backgroundthe combined heart valve surgery and coronary artery bypass graft surgery has increased in frequency. The combined procedures have an increased risk of perioperative complications and mortality and usually is realized in older patients. We present our experience with this combined procedure.Methodswe analyzed the files of patients treated with combined valve surgery and coronary artery bypass graft surgery, between June 1, 2008 and June 30, 2011. We evaluated risk factors, surgical time, morbidity and mortality.Resultsin the analyzed period, we included 74 patients. There were 51 male patients (69%) and 23 female patients (31%). The mean age was 63 ± 7.3 years. The most frequent procedure was aortic valve replacement with one or two coronary artery bypass grafts. The main complications were postoperative bleeding (18.9%), mediastinitis (8.1%) and cardiac rhythm disturbances (2.7%). The mortality was 2.7%.Conclusionit was concluded that combined valve surgery with myocardial revascularization has similar results to that reported by other authors and on this basis this procedure is safe and useful.
