    AbstractMultidisciplinary working was introduced in a medical admissions unit to improve the discharge process. The number of patients discharged increased as did the opportunities for discharge because they took place throughout the week including weekends. The number of medical patients occupying surgical beds decreased by 100 per cent, which reduced disruption to elective surgery schedules.
